I’d like to think that I love all of my shoes equally, but I have a soft spot for my sneaker collection. I can always find room in my apartment for another pair, no matter how crowded my shoe rack becomes. But with a new season comes a bevy of new trends, especially in the sneaker world, and fall and winter 2022's shoe trends are to die for. It feels like sneaker brands are dropping new colorways and silhouettes on a near-monthly basis, so I took the time to round up all the best sneakers of 2022—so far.
To help you find your perfect pair of sneakers, I divided my picks into a few general trends for you to keep in mind while you browse. These trends are anything but boring. Options in monochromatic hues—right down to the laces and soles—like all-black sneakers and cool all-white sneakers are everywhere this season, proving that you really can wear black from head to toe. Plus, autumnal earth tones like olive green and brown and textures like velvet and suede are taking over right now. And in stark contrast to the previous season’s obsession with chunky sneaker silhouettes, minimal, low-profile sneakers are everywhere this season. Think: pairs like the celebrity-adored Adidas Samba sneaker. And finally, New Balance continues to woo the fashion set.
Down to Earth (Tones)
It's important to stay grounded. This season, brands and designers are stepping away from the ultra-bright options of years past in favor of sneakers that come in shades of brown, olive green, and maroon.
One-Shaded
If you're not into wearing a bunch of colors, then this trend is for you. The coolest sneakers for winter 2022 are the ones that come in one single shade, right down to the laces. Shop options from Maison Margiela, Nike, On, and Zara.
Low Profile
Think of these sneakers as the antithesis of the chunky sneakers we've been seeing for years now. They're so low to the ground and fit so close to the foot, they're practically an athletic ballet flat.
Luxe Life
Upgrade your sneaker game this winter by way of a few luxe textures. Think: wearable velvet sneakers, fun-colored suede finishings, and pairs that are decked out in lots of sparkles.
